UK Peak District; Derbyshire Motorhoming Practice
By this time we had purchased a Duvalay mattress topper, which we hoped, would improve, even further, the comfort of Knigel and also packed some food and other items for the night.
On arrival at the Firs very friendly owners and a lovely site in the middle of the Peak District met us. What was a little disappointing though was a lack of walks directly from the site without having to walk along a road. Still, beautiful scenery! Having learnt our lessons Greg set up Knigel in a record 20 minutes, albeit he was soaking wet again due to a lack of tap connectors (perhaps not quite a full lesson learnt).
We then headed off for a walk and a pub lunch. It was a lovely walk but Juno wished that she could go off the lead more. The pub – “The Spanker Inn” (yes, really) was so friendly and nice. The staff could not have been nicer to Juno and I think that it wins her TripAdvisor vote having been given pork, lamb, & pork scratchings by them and what with her scavenging chips and peas off the floor she almost had a full Sunday roast.
Then for a night in Knigel. I had bought a homemade chilli so it was just a matter of heating it up and eating it. We had also obtained a digital aerial from my Dad so I hooked that up to the TV and hoped for a night chilling in front of Undercover – a BBC drama that had us spellbound. The TV didn’t seem to be working and we blamed the aerial, so after a few texts with Dad plus positioning the aerial all over the place Greg finally stepped in to review my handy work – turns out I hadn’t plugged it in to the back of the TV! Still, the error was spotted in time and we got to watch Undercover whilst eating chilli and things weren’t too bad.
A good night sleep was had, helped by Juno having learnt her lesson from our first night so staying firmly in her own bed.
What have we learnt from this time?
- Don’t trust me with anything technical!
- Double check with campsites if you can actually walk from the campsite without going on roads.
- Undercover is a great bit of British drama.
